Budd Lake (originally known as Hattacawanna Lake), is the largest natural lake in New Jersey. The Lake is a glacial lake with a surface area of 374 acres.

Lake Hattacawanna was the home of the Forest House Hotel throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Forest House was owned and operated by the Sharp Family of German Valley (known today as Long Valley), Washington Township, Morris County.

Budd Family Plot. Mount Olive Baptist CemetaryA direct decendant of Lt. John Budd (b. 1599 d.1670) who was the first military officer to train a home guard to protect the community and was there after referred to as Lt. John Budd. During 1649 in Southold(Long Island, NY) he owned a piece of property at the east end of town near a pond that became known as Budd Pond.

 

His decendant John Budd, born in 1698, moved to Morris County, New Jersey from Westchester, New York in or about 1746.

Mount Olive Baptist ChurchIt is believed that his final resting place is Mount Olive Baptist Cemetery (originally known as Schooley's Mountain Baptist Church) on Flanders-Drakestown Road, Mount Olive, New Jersey.
